About Us
Throughout history, coins have been used to honor and remember people, places, and experiences. COIN COIN designs & co. creator Renée Gruszecki is a leading specialist on the material culture and social history of traditional and contemporary Euro-American sentimental jewelry and cultural tokens. The coins used to fashion these one-of-a-kind ring designs are from her personal “found coin” collection, which was amassed over the last eight years.
What's with the duck ? The luck is in the duck.
In addition to being a pretty fly bird and emblem of COIN COIN designs & co., Coin Coin! The Lucky Duck’s footprint also serves as our seal of approval for the following reasons. First
of all, the duck is a popular animal totem amongst numerous cultures,
signifying transition, resourcefulness, prosperity, and good luck. The duck
also represents our versatility as a bilingual business because coin coin literally translates into the
French duck call. The third magical piece that completes the duck connection is
Coin Coin!'s love of history and fortune as he comes to life in the mystical Polish Golden Duck folktale by Artur
Opperman (1867-1931), and later adapted by Richard Monte, called The Golden
Duck of Warsaw. The folktale transcends all languages with its powerful message: one cannot be happy unless one shares their
riches with others. You can read a modern interpretation of the legend here. Lastly, Coin Coin! The Lucky Duck is a Polish paper-cut design known as wycinanki who loves to travel — you can download him here! He cheerfully invites you to print, cut and take him out and document your journey together so that it may be shared on his blog. All images may be submitted to him personally at luckyduck@coincoin.caThese are just a few things to think about when you notice the duck’s footprint engraved on the inside of your COIN COIN ring.

Get lucky! See a penny, pick it up, and all day
you’ll have good luck. I’ve
always been intrigued by that powerful adage, but now it’s become a motivating
theme for my creative work. During the last decade, I’ve collected thousands of
found coins while at home and away. Every coin in my collection is
different; some have been run over, scratched by rocks, scarred, or rusted
green from the waters of the beach. Just like the people we encounter in daily
life, each penny has a unique story and the capacity to evoke rare memories. My background as a trained archivist, as well as my educational training as a Masters graduate from the History of Design and Material Culture programme at the University of Brighton in England, helped fuel my passion for preserving the abandoned parts of history. The material world around us offers much inspiration, but as a collector, coins (and coin jewelry) have always resonated in a special way for me.
Growing up in Ottawa, and presently calling the eastern shores of Halifax my home, I’ve always felt fortunate to be a part of such a historically rich culture. As a leading specialist on the material culture and social history of traditional and contemporary Euro-American sentimental jewelry and cultural tokens, it was important for me to create a jewelry line that was not only attractive but also functional, meaningful, culturally-connected, and timeless. And of course, I wanted it to bring my clients good luck because there is nothing quite as rewarding as keeping your whimsical inner-child alive.
With COIN COIN you can wear the wealth and find inspiration in change.
Thanks for stopping by!
